UK Online Gambling Revenues Grow 5% to £1.3bn in Q1: Cheltenham Festival and Slots Drive Increase

In the UK, the Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) from online gambling platforms increased 5% year-on-year to £1.3bn in the first quarter, according to the Gambling Commission’s report for their fiscal year’s fourth quarter. The total number of bets placed during this period rose by 9%, with active betting accounts growing by 11%.

The Cheltenham Festival is thought to have contributed to these surges, with horse betting on actual events growing by 13% to £555m, and total bets increasing by 19%. Slot machine GGY was £552m, a 2% increase from the previous year, and online slot sessions exceeding an hour increased by 10% to £8.8m. However, the average betting session length decreased by a minute to 17 minutes as per UKGC.
