Proper Bet Review 2026: New UK Bookmaker Tested
Proper Bet is one of the genuinely new UK bookmakers to appear in May 2026. It went live this summer with its own UK Gambling Commission licence rather than operating as another brand under somebody else’s licence.
We spent some time going through the new sportsbook, and the first impression is quite straightforward: Proper Bet feels like a sportsbook first and a casino second. Football and horse racing are easy to reach, there is a separate in-play section, and the wider menu covers everything from darts and golf to MMA, American football and even politics.
There is one obvious omission, though. Proper Bet isn’t currently advertising a new-customer free bet. That’s unusual in a UK market where almost every new bookmaker arrives shouting about £20, £30 or £50 in free bets.
That makes this a more interesting review than simply asking how big the welcome bonus is. The question is whether the actual sportsbook is good enough to use without one.
Our testing status: We reviewed the public sportsbook, navigation, available sports, football, horse racing and in-play sections in September 2026. We haven’t yet completed our own deposit-to-withdrawal test, so we’re not giving Proper Bet a payout-speed rating yet.

Our First Impression of Proper Bet

The thing I like most so far is that Proper Bet doesn’t try to reinvent how a bookmaker works.
Across the top you get Sports, In Play, Casino and Virtuals, while the sportsbook itself has a simple A–Z menu. Football and horse racing are where I’d expect most UK customers to spend their time, and both are easy to find rather than buried underneath promotions.
That’s more important than it sounds. Some newer betting sites arrive with slick branding but make you click through three menus just to find today’s racing.
Proper Bet is much more conventional.
It isn’t visually revolutionary and there isn’t an obvious feature that made me think, I haven’t seen this anywhere else. But for a bookmaker that has only just launched, I’d rather it get the basics right than add another gimmick.
The underlying sportsbook technology is also established rather than completely new. That’s probably preferable to a new operator trying to build everything from scratch.
Proper Bet Welcome Offer
This is currently the obvious weak point. We couldn’t find a public new-customer sportsbook offer when we checked Proper Bet in September 2026.
A £30 free bet doesn’t make a bad bookmaker good. But if you’re asking someone who already has accounts with bet365, Betfred or William Hill to open another betting account, you need to give them a reason.
Without a welcome offer, Proper Bet has to compete on the actual product. For me, that means three things: good prices, useful betting markets and reliable withdrawals.
We’re not calling its odds competitive yet because I want to compare a proper sample rather than find one football match where Proper Bet happens to be best price.
Proper Bet Football Betting
Football is where I’d expect Proper Bet to win or lose most UK customers. The section covers the Premier League, Championship, international football and the major European competitions, alongside pre-match and in-play markets. The layout is clean and doesn’t feel overloaded.
This is where I would spend most of my time comparing Proper Bet against bet365, SBK and Matchbook. A new bookmaker doesn’t really need another gimmick; it needs competitive match prices, plenty of player and match markets, and a bet slip that doesn’t get in the way.
That’s the part I’ll be watching most closely.
If Proper Bet is routinely shorter than the established bookmakers, a clean website won’t compensate for it. If the prices are good, then suddenly the lack of a welcome bonus matters a lot less.
Horse Racing at Proper Bet
Horse racing also gets prominent treatment. There is a Next Races section directly from the sportsbook and separate areas for UK and Irish racing, international racing and future races. I like that setup.
If I’m looking at racing, I generally want to get straight to what’s going off next rather than work through a generic sports menu.
What I wouldn’t claim yet is that Proper Bet is a particularly strong racing bookmaker. There’s a difference between having horse racing markets and being a bookmaker I’d specifically keep an account with for racing.
Bet365, Betfred and William Hill have spent years building racing propositions around things like Best Odds Guaranteed, boosts, extra places and regular concessions.
Proper Bet still needs to show what it can offer beyond simply pricing the races.
Proper Bet In-Play Betting
There is a separate In Play tab rather than live markets being hidden inside each individual sport. When you’re betting during a match, you usually want to see what is available now rather than spend time navigating between competitions.
The interface also makes price movement relatively easy to follow, with markets suspending and reopening as play changes.
What matters more in the long run is the depth of those live markets: how many options remain available once the match starts, how quickly markets reopen after major incidents, and whether features such as cash out work consistently.
The structure is good. The deeper test is whether it holds up when you’re actually using it during busy live sport.
What Sports Can You Bet on at Proper Bet?
Proper Bet already covers pretty much everything I’d expect from a UK sportsbook. Alongside football, horse racing and greyhounds, there are markets for tennis, golf, cricket, darts, snooker, rugby, boxing, MMA and motorsport.
You can also bet on US sports including basketball, American football, baseball and ice hockey, plus some less mainstream options such as cycling, handball and Australian rules. Politics and TV specials are listed too.
That’s plenty. I wouldn’t choose Proper Bet because it has another obscure sport buried in the A–Z, though. Football, racing and in-play betting matter much more than the total number of sports on the menu.
Deposits, KYC and Withdrawals
Proper Bet is still too new for us to give it a meaningful payout-speed rating. We’ll judge this on the full process rather than the advertised withdrawal time: depositing, placing and settling a bet, any verification required, and how long the money actually takes to reach us after requesting a withdrawal.
We’ll update this section with the payment method and actual withdrawal time once we’ve completed that test.
Proper Bet Mobile & App
Proper Bet works well enough through a mobile browser from what we’ve seen so far. The structure translates naturally to a smaller screen because the important sections remain separated: Sports, In Play, Casino and Virtuals.
The racing and sports menus are also fairly easy to reach without scrolling through endless promotional panels. Again, it’s functional rather than groundbreaking.
If I’m checking a football price five minutes before kick-off, that’s exactly what I want. I don’t need a bookmaker to entertain me while I’m trying to place a bet.
Proper Bet Casino
There is a full casino attached to Proper Bet, alongside the sportsbook and virtual betting. I wouldn’t open an account specifically for the casino at this point.
There are already plenty of established UK casinos with bigger histories, more developed promotions and much more information available about payouts.
What is more interesting is that Proper Bet Limited itself holds the casino licence, rather than the bookmaker simply sending casino customers into somebody else’s operation.
For now, though, Proper Bet makes much more sense to review as a sportsbook.
If the casino develops something genuinely distinctive, it deserves a separate test rather than padding this review with a list of slot providers.
Is Proper Bet Safe?
Proper Bet is properly licensed in Great Britain with the UK Gambling Commission account 100990.
Its remote permissions cover:
- general betting on real events;
- general betting on virtual events; and
- casino gambling.
All three became active on 22 May 2026.
That is worth pointing out because many supposedly new bookmakers are simply additional brands sitting under an operator licence that has been around for years. Proper Bet is different. The operator itself is genuinely new.
That is not automatically an advantage. An established operator has years of payment history, complaints and customer feedback to judge. Proper Bet doesn’t have that yet.
The positive is that the regulatory responsibility is clear. The unknown is how well this new operator actually performs once more customers start using it.
What We Like So Far
Proper Bet’s strongest point is probably its simplicity.
Football and racing are easy to find, in-play betting has its own area and there is already enough sports coverage that most people won’t need another account simply to find a market.
I also like that Proper Bet Limited has its own UKGC licence. It gives the brand a bit more interest than another new logo sitting on one of the huge white-label networks.
The absence of endless promotional clutter is also quite refreshing, although Proper Bet may have gone a little too far in the other direction by currently offering no obvious welcome free bet at all.
What Proper Bet Still Needs to Prove
There are really only three things I want to know before moving Proper Bet higher in our bookmaker rankings.
The odds: Are the football and racing prices consistently competitive with established bookmakers?
The withdrawals: How quickly does Proper Bet actually pay after KYC is completed?
The promotions: If there’s no headline welcome offer, will existing customers get useful boosts, racing concessions or other reasons to keep using the account?
Those three things matter far more to me than whether Proper Bet has the newest-looking homepage.
Proper Bet Review: Our Verdict
Proper Bet is one of the more interesting new UK bookmakers of 2026, but I’m not ready to call it one of the best yet.
What I’ve seen so far is promising. The sportsbook is straightforward, football and racing are easy to find, there is a dedicated in-play section and the range of sports is already broad enough for most UK bettors.
I also like that Proper Bet Limited has its own UKGC licence rather than being another white-label gambling site.
But being new cuts both ways. There is very little operating history, we haven’t completed our own withdrawal test yet and there is currently no welcome free-bet offer to compensate for those unknowns.
For now, I’d describe Proper Bet as one to watch rather than one to switch to immediately.
If the odds are competitive and our first withdrawal goes smoothly, that verdict could move fairly quickly.
But we’ll test those things first rather than give a brand-new bookmaker five stars simply because it’s new.
BritishGambler initial verdict: Promising new independent sportsbook, but still unproven.
